If so, we have a great opportunity for a detail orientated and hands-on individual to work as a Bench Joiner Team Leader and join our team in Southampton.


The Contract:


Full time – 40 hours per week


The Role:

To assist the Joinery Manager in the joinery department, to ensure the smooth running of the workshop. Lead a team of employees and ensure that the construction of the joinery is maintained to the required Oyster standard.


Main Responsibilities:

The Bench Joiner Team Leader will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring the workshop is organised on a day to day basis, and assist with any problem solving.
  • Attend production meetings and work closely with the Design and Procurement departments to ensure the smooth running of the workshop.
  • Follow the companies policies and procedures, and maintain the company standards as well as the companies behavioural code of conduct.
  • Promote Health & Safety with no exceptions and consistency in approach.
  • Decision making and leading by example as well as creating and maintaining a positive “can do” attitude.
  • Work closely with the Joinery Manager and perform management duties when the Joinery Manager is absent or out of office.
  • Continually work to improve productivity and quality, identify areas for improvement and encourage ideas from the team as well as communicating the progress of such improvements.
  • Monitor and assist with Apprentices training and development and report to the Joinery Manager giving updates on their progress.


The Person:


  • Robust boatbuilding construction knowledge
  • Excellent communication skills as well as ability to be self-motivated to keep up to date with new technologies
  • Proven track record of motivating and developing others


  • Experience of managing a fast-paced department
  • Previous experience of working with Oyster Yachts
