Enigma is a fantastic example of the Oyster 655, combining proven bluewater capability with refined luxury and cutting-edge composite construction. Built using Oyster’s High Modulus Carbon/Kevlar laminate, she offers exceptional strength, stiffness and weight savings, paired with a high-performance bulb keel and skeg-hung rudder for confident ocean sailing. Her carbon Hall Spars mast, hydraulic sail controls, electric furling systems and comprehensive sail wardrobe (largely renewed in recent years) make her both powerful and easily managed. Designed to Category A – Ocean standards and equipped with extensive safety, navigation and communication systems—including radar, AIS, satellite communications and GPS—she is thoroughly set up for serious offshore cruising, as demonstrated by her participation in the Oyster World Rally.
What truly elevates Enigma is the blend of performance with comfort and craftsmanship. Her light, airy deck saloon styling, teak-laid decks and twin-helm cockpit create an elegant yet practical exterior space, while below decks she offers beautifully finished maple joinery, four generous cabins sleeping eight, and three well-appointed heads. The full-beam owner’s stateroom with private companionway is particularly impressive. Modern conveniences such as air conditioning, watermaker, lithium battery bank, powerful generator, washer/dryer, dishwasher and a comprehensive AV system ensure long-term liveaboard comfort. Thoughtfully engineered systems, abundant tankage, and high-quality equipment throughout make Enigma a capable world cruiser that delivers both luxury living and serious passagemaking performance in equal measure.
MANUFACTURER'S COMMENTS
With the 655, performance was an established criterion from the outset. Designer, Rob Humphreys, created a set of hull lines with a relatively fine entry forward and a clean run aft. Add a low centre of gravity keel, a modern high aspect rudder and powerful sail plan and the result is a fast yacht that is a pleasure to sail.
The twin helm configuration puts the helmsman in exactly the right place and means that the spacious forward cockpit is safe and uncluttered. It is also much easier to get on and off the working deck since there is virtually flat deck access from the stern into the cockpit.
The saloon makes best use of the yacht’s 18' 5" (5.62m) beam and, with the U-shaped galley to port, creates a spacious and contemporary open-plan living environment, with plenty of counter surfaces and stowage space.
The 655 has a spacious owner’s suite aft, with its own private access to deck, and three guest cabins.
