Crew

Austin and Alexandra Aponte

Captain and chef

Austin was raised on the island of Bermuda where he grew up sailing dinghies as well as his family’s wooden ketch. At the age of 16 he undertook his first Atlantic crossing as a trainee on the tall ship, Europa. His experience has been fairly diverse, from skippering high performance catamarans to navigational officer on high latitude Arctic expedition yachts. His main focus and passion has been in classic yachts. He was bowman aboard the 109 year old 15 Meter, The Lady Anne, in the Mediterranean regatta circuits as well as crew aboard schooners such as Eleanora, Altair and Adix.

Austin holds a 200 Ton Unlimited Licence as well as Chief Officer of the Watch tickets to ensure guests feel safe while enjoying themselves on the water. In addition to sailing, Austin enjoys surfing and free diving.

Alexandra grew up in the interior mountains of the island of Puerto Rico, the daughter of a dairy farmer. Her passion for the ocean started with her introduction to surfing at a young age. Sailing was always on the periphery of her pursuit for surf and once she fully discovered sailing, she was hooked and constantly looking to the horizon. She has enjoyed just over 10 years in the industry having sailed multiple trips through the Pacific, Atlantic, and Mediterranean including more exotic passages up the Amazon River, the coast of Patagonia, the Falklands and South Georgia Island.

She started cooking at a young age with her grandmother and undertook her culinary training in Ireland at Ballymaloe Cookery School, Organic Farm and Gardens. She furthered her culinary training by working in restaurants in Italy and Panama. She brings style, fresh ingredients and taste to every dish and looks forward to welcoming you onboard.
