About Sea Mercy

Sea Mercy is a charity based in the South Pacific making a difference to the people living on remote islands. We partnered with Sea Mercy for the Oyster World Rally 2017-19, and we are thrilled to be supporting this wonderful charity again on the Oyster World Rally 2022-23.

There are two programmes we will support: the Give Sight and Give Light programmes. This is a life-changing opportunity for hundreds of people in remote locations, through the gift of sight (near and farsighted glasses) or solar lights.

Give Sight

Imagine being able to give a student the ability to see the chalkboard in school, a fisherman the ability to see to tie his line to a hook, an artisan to see to paint or a member of a church to read their Bible. There is no need to be an Optometrist or Ophthalmologist to deliver these miracles. Sea Mercy's eye testing and evaluation program is easy to administer, and anyone can learn to be an Eye Care Program Director.

Oyster World Rally sailors will be trained to carry out eye tests and prescribe glasses correctly by Sea Mercy. Many of the yachts taking part will carry Eye Kits and will hold eye clinics at various remote locations.

Give Light

Thousands of people living on remote islands across the South Pacific have no power lines or generators to bring light into their homes and community meeting rooms, to guide their small fishing vessels at night or to bring emergency light for a nurse or doctor delivering a baby. To cook, work or read they are forced to rely upon dangerous, toxic and expensive kerosene lanterns as their primary light source.

Oyster World Rally yachts will distribute solar lights that will transform the lives of people living in these remote communities.
