With just four full time employees we’re a lean and efficient operation which means that we know our clients well, a key factor in the loyal customer base of around 140 owners that we currently have.
When it comes to the types of Oysters that we see most of, the most popular models here are in the 50-60ft range and because of this we think that the 565 and 595 are going to be core for us and big sellers.
The shoal draft options are also popular given the draft restrictions in some parts of the east coast of the USA, so again, we expect these models will be popular.
Our business is based around sales, brokerage, charter and service so we cover all the major areas for Oyster owners.
For those that are passing through we’re the link to the Americas, while for others that are looking to buy, sell, or charter, we are their central point of contact. From full handovers to importing boats, service and warranty, between the four of us we wear lots of different hats which means we have extensive knowledge of all things Oyster.
But it’s not just about the big items, we get asked plenty of other questions too from; where is the best place to anchor, where can I get a new door handle, what’s the used boat market like and when is the best time to list my boat? There’s little we haven’t been asked.
Dan joined Oyster’s Newport office in 2011 following a career with a leading international brokerage. Prior to coming ashore he held various positions aboard, starting in 2003 and culminating with his captaincy of S/Y Argo, a 110’ Langan Design Schooner. While at sea, Dan completed crossings of the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans, and accumulated over 50,000 miles of blue-water cruising experience, including extensive landfalls and oversight of several major refits. A few examples of work recently completed by the Oyster USA team
Dick and Sue Hammill took delivery of their Oyster 575 Spirit in 2015 in the UK, fulfilling a 30-year dream. Several wonderful years were spent cruising in the company of friends and family. First in the Mediterranean, then crossing the Atlantic on the ARC. For the next two years Spirit voyaged extensively between the Caribbean and East Coast US and notably placed a first in class in the Oyster BVI Regatta 2017.
During periods of downtime Spirit was offered a few times through Oyster Charter. Now that Dick and Sue have fulfilled their dream, Spirit resides at Oyster Newport where she awaits her next owner.
Spirit is looked after by the Oyster Service Center and listed for sale through Oyster Brokerage.

As life long bareboat charterers, 2015 was a turning point in our lives as we stepped aboard the newest member of our family, Spirit. Like any good parent she was nurtured and cared for over the last three years not only by us as owners, but by incredibly competent crew couples and Oyster support people who made sure Spirit maintained her new commissioning day state until our last voyage from Ft Lauderdale to Newport.
It’s a very sad good bye for us, but the incredible memories of the voyages, the destinations, and the social experiences will stay with us for a lifetime. One incredible chapter in our blessed life.

Tim Proctor has had the full experience that the Oyster Newport office offers. He purchased the boat from Dan Wurzbacher here in Newport. The boat was shipped over to Newport, where the final commissioning took place. Will White and a member of the Oyster commissioning team from the UK then sailed the boat over to Long Island for handover. We handed the boat over, did a few test sails and some training for the owner. Over the rest of that summer season, Will made several trips to Long Island to attend to the boat and sort out issues both warranty and owner requests. The following year, the owner relocated himself from Long Island to South Carolina. He then contracted Oyster to prep the boat for the summer season, and deliver it the 700 miles to it’s new home. The delivery was done and Will has since been back to attend to the boat there at the owner’s request.
The global reach of the Oyster support network certainly extends to the States making it possible to work through the build process entirely from the States.
From the hand over in the summer of 2017 until now I have been ably supported by the Newport office. I would be remiss if I did not recognize Will White who has never failed to be knowledgeable, helpful and responsive. No service requirement of mine, large or small, has gone unmet. From Sag Harbor, New York to Little River, South Carolina, Oyster’s Newport office has provided the timely, expert support that gives me that extra measure of confidence.
