Pre-season checks can seem intimidating, especially for those who are new to yacht ownership. With that in mind, we have put together an Oyster yacht service guide to getting your luxury sailing yacht ready for the season ahead. From the watermaker to the sails checks, main engine service and winches, we have created an owner’s handbook to follow, allowing you to stay on top of the annual yacht maintenance and ensure you are ready for the season.
At Oyster, every owner receives a maintenance manual and a logbook when they purchase their yacht, allowing them to easily keep track of all yacht repair work that is carried out.
Your Oyster logbook contains a weekly, monthly, bi-annual, annual, five-year and ten-year servicing checklist, which you can use as a crib sheet to ensure you’re properly caring for your yacht. Keeping your logbook updated will also help increase the residual value of your boat, since buyers prioritise well-maintained boats.
When carried out by Oyster, an annual yacht service typically takes two weeks with the yacht out of the water, allowing for the application of new antifouling paint and the service of rudder, propeller, seacocks, and thrusters.
Each Oyster yacht service is unique to the boat itself. It very much depends on the current condition of your yacht, and your plans for the season ahead. Our After Sales team will make you an honest list of requirements, looking at everything from canvas work to winches, which means you can set sail for the season, confident in the knowledge you are ready to take on anything!
Annual pre-season checks and preparations for a sailing yacht may include:
And, once she is lifted out of the water for her annual haul-out:
Our Oyster Service Centres are located in the most common sailing destinations. In the Mediterranean, we have bases in Palma de Mallorca and Barcelona which offer a range of yacht service, yacht repair and yacht maintenance works. For those in the U.S., Oyster Yachts Newport is your go-to yard for anything from a general yacht health check to an emergency repair. In the UK we have Oyster Service Centres in Southampton and Ipswich, which offer a broad range of services from yacht refit through to annual maintenance and storage.
Everything on the logbook checklist can be carried out by our dedicated teams around the world. Where necessary, we can also come directly to your yacht to carry out the required work.
At Oyster Yachts we know our boats and the build process inside out, putting us ahead of the curve. The difference between utilising our Oyster sailing services is our in-depth knowledge of the boat, access to trained Oyster technicians, manufacturer’s parts, validation of warranty and an up-to-date maintenance log, which will have a profound impact on your boat’s residual value if you come to sell her.
However, if you don’t have an Oyster yacht, this shouldn’t stop you from booking our yacht repair or maintenance services. With a team of experts that are both extremely knowledgeable and highly respectful of every boat they visit, not to mention an unbeaten reputation, we’ve worked on some of the world’s best yacht brands. From Wally Yachts to Jongerts and Sunseekers, we can help service your yacht to the highest standard. Every owner we work with, whether Oyster owners or those of another sailing yacht brand, value our trusted team and quality workmanship.
