The Contract:

Permanent

Full time – 40 hours per week

The role will be based at Oyster Yachts Southampton and report to the Group Quality and Lean Manufacturing Manager. The role covers the Southampton and Hythe facilities.

 The Role:

The Quality Manager will be responsible for all aspects of quality ensuring that the yachts meet or exceed company and customer quality expectations. They will be implementing and driving quality improvements and driving down cost of quality.

 Main Responsibilities

  • Support, maintain, and enhance the quality management system.
  • Support the Group QM in ensuring quality processes are in place and are effective to meet customer needs and regulatory requirements.
  • Support in the establishment of best practices and guidelines regarding quality assurance.
  • Drive improvements in quality performance to enhance the customer experience and to reduce the Cost of Poor Quality
  • Carry out quality checks throughout the build of each yacht to ensure standards are met and processes are being adhered to.
  • Working with suppliers and subcontractors conducting on-site inspections where required.
  • Ensuring quality is maintained with subcontractors working at Oyster facilities.
  • Maintain digital photo database, cataloguing all new boats ‘as built’.
  • Ensure quality documentation is checked and kept up to date throughout the builds and is fully signed off prior to the boat handing over to the client.
  • Feeding quality issues back to production to minimise future defects.
  • Liaise with production and commissioning staff on correct procedures for fitting and installing equipment.
  • Assist in ensuring commissioning and snagging of yachts is carried out effectively ensuring quality issues and bad work practices are dealt with and fed back to production.
  • When required, assist Goods-Inwards in quality checking parts and equipment.
  • Work with Supply Chain to ensure suppliers are meeting agreed standards and issues are being fed back.
  • Internal and supplier / subcontractor audits.
  • Identify, monitor, and assist with resolving quality issues as they arise.
  • Appraisal of new equipment, development of and assisting introduction into build process.
  • Assisting other staff members, the company generally or members of the wider Oyster community with any issue within your skill set.
  • Taking responsibility for personal growth and development.

The Person:

 Essential

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Quality Manager
  • Experience working in the marine industry and low volume high quality products
  • Relevant manufacturing / engineering degree preferred, or Diploma Level 3, or equivalent NVQ level 3 qualification
  • Working knowledge of Root Cause Analysis techniques such as 8D and 5Why
  • Able to interpret Engineering Drawings
  • Problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Methodical approach to work
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • High level of attention to detail
  • Able to work to schedule within a fast-paced environment
  • Good verbal, written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills

 Desirable

  • An understanding of continuous improvement methodologies such as 6S, Lean Manufacturing
  • Experienced at managing a team of people
  • Experienced auditor
