If so, we have a great opportunity for a Production Engineer.

The Production Engineer will be responsible for supporting the production processes and take the lead on identifying improvements and their implementation.

The role will be based at Oyster Southampton and report directly into the Group Quality and Lean Manager. You will also assist with other members of production and liaise with various other department as required. There may at times be the requirement to travel to other sites within the Oyster Group.

Principle Job Responsibilities

Responsible for the implementation of production processes and procedures, leading productivity and quality improvements through project-based activities, including new product introduction and manufacturing design to reduce waste, improve quality and safety, and reduce operating costs.

As part of the leadership team you will assist in promoting a culture of Health and Safety, continuous Improvements and a lean manufacturing environment.


General Requirements of the Production Engineer Role

  • Identify best manufacturing practices for all products, both NPI and current models.
  • Implement standardised work methods and instructions.
  • Lead on continuous improvement, problem solving and process improvement activities.
  • Assist with shop floor layout designs to maximise efficiency and minimise waste.
  • Work with Production management to ensure schedule adherence.
  • Work with the materials planner to ensure all parts are scheduled to be delivered to the production at the correct time.
  • Assist in Health, Safety and Environmental compliance, reinforcing the message to the teams on a day-to-day basis to sustain the policy and any procedures required.
  • Ensure that the facility is run to the highest quality standards, applicable accredited build standards and materials.
  • To ensure employees are well informed of quality standards and work areas & equipment are maintained as required.
  • Help to ensure internal and external customer requirements are delivered in line with Oyster standards and policy.

The Person


  • Relevant manufacturing/engineering degree preferred, A Levels, ONC, City & Guilds level 3, BTEC National Diploma Level 3, IVQ Technician Diploma, or equivalent NVQ level 3 qualification.
  • Able to interpret and work to Engineering Drawings.
  • Problem solving and troubleshooting skills which ensure that team members can positively contribute to identifying root cause and take fast, effective corrective action to resolve the problems in hand and on future projects.
  • An understanding of continuous improvement methodologies such as 6S, Lean Manufacturing.
  • Good IT skills such as MS Word, Excel and Project.
  • Methodical approach to work.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Able to work to schedule within a fast-paced environment.
  • Good verbal, written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.


  • Qualified Lean Practitioner.
  • Experience of the marine industry and low volume high quality products.
  • Experienced at managing a team of people.
  • NX design software.
  • AutoCAD design.
