An opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and proactive individual to assist the Boat Build Manager in the joinery department ensuring the smooth running of the workshop. You will lead the team of employees and ensure that the construction of the joinery is maintained to the required Oyster standard.

The Bench Joiner Team Leader will report directly to the Boat Build Manager in Hythe

Main Responsibilities of the Bench Joiner Team Leader Role

  • Oversee the day to day running of the workshop.
  • Ensure joinery produced is in line with drawings, work instructions and Oyster quality standards.
  • Working closely with other departments to resolve any issues that arise to ensure the smooth running of the workshop.
  • Identify areas for improvement that will increase efficiency or product design.
  • Lead daily team briefings, communicating progress, priorities, and toolbox talks.
  • Monitor departmental KPIs and take corrective areas where required ensuring on-time delivery.
  • Provide training support and guidance to the joinery team, supporting management in putting in place personal development plans and reviews.
  • Be actively involved with the performance reviews of all team members in conjunction with the Boat Build Manager. Provide accurate feedback and continually identify possible areas of improvement.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working area in-line with 6S standards.

The Person

 Essential:

  • Robust boatbuilding construction knowledge.
  • Relevant City & Guilds Qualification or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication skills as well as ability to be self-motivated to keep up to date with new technologies.
  • Ability to work on own initiative.
  • Proven track record of motivating and developing others.

Desirable:

  • Experience of managing a fast-paced department.
  • Health and Safety qualified.
  • Knowledge of 6S and lean principles.
  • Previous experience of working with Oyster Yachts.
